Part of our design and build service across London.

A complete transformation, inside and out.
Close to Hampstead Heath, a disused building in a conservation area became a seven-bedroom family home. The project brought together 530 m² of refurbished space, rear and side extensions, a loft conversion, a roof terrace and a garden yoga and gym studio.

An existing house brings its own opportunities and constraints. We consider the structure, setting and proposed use together, with design and permissions addressed early. At Maresfield Gardens, that approach connected a complete interior transformation with carefully engineered additions.
How we workPlanning work in Hampstead.
How do you approach a house in a conservation area?
We begin by understanding the existing building, its setting and the changes you want to make. Our Maresfield Gardens project involved a complete overhaul of a house in a conservation area close to Hampstead Heath. The design and permissions for each property need to be assessed individually.
Can refurbishment include an extension or loft conversion?
Yes, these can form part of one coordinated project where the property and permissions allow. At Maresfield Gardens, refurbished interiors were combined with rear and side extensions and a loft conversion. We assess the options together so the new spaces work with the rest of the home.
How long will the work take?
The programme depends on the project’s scope, design, permissions and material lead times. We provide a project-specific time estimate after assessing the work. Planning and procurement need to be considered alongside the construction period.
What happens if you find an unexpected structural problem?
Existing buildings can reveal issues once work begins. If an unexpected problem arises, we explain what has been found, obtain the appropriate technical advice and discuss the proposed solution, including any effect on the cost or programme.
